i wanna tell you about this little place that i discovered by chance recently..

it was just one of those lazy days at the office when i suddenly got a pop-up email message from booking.com on their specials..absent-mindedly opened up the web-link and what i saw really piqued my curiosity..it was a flash deal on a boutique hotel in town..at rm49 for a room, it was totally unbeatable, especially when i saw the pics of the rooms and the hotel..

so i made an immediate booking for an upcoming holiday, got hold of my bunch of friends and off we went to explore the place..

what greeted us on the outside was kind of totally unremarkable..an almost plain looking glass door fronting an unassumingly normal looking building amidst a run down neighborhood...but once we opened the glass door, it was like going into a different dimension..

pretty decent looking frontage..that is if one doesn't look too far to the left or the right..and if one forgets to appreciate the real esthetics upfront, one might think it not very different from any other budget hotel in that part of town..

motel-like rooms seen from the courtyard..very clean corridors..not a piece of rubbish seen..

artificial looking natural trees..haha. dont get me wrong, it actually looks very very pleasing..landscaping must have been done by a professional...the plastic paneling actually allows sunlight to come into the courtyard but keeps out the rain. the sides are not enclosed, which allows natural air to flow in..very smart..

having a cup of tea or coffee in the afternoon can be quite nice, relaxing and refreshing out here..with my samsung tab in hand, i could just while my time away playing angry birds..

quite upmarket finishings. one can judge a room by its wash basin..and the wood paneled flooring just adds a further measure of luxury..very simple but yet very cozy and comfortable..

this is really nice..mattress on a floor board. so japanese in styling. the bed was really comfortable...i could just live in this room forever..and with a 32-inch LCD tv facing the bed..i was in heaven..

the shower and toilet..again very very clean. the hot water was a bit low in pressure..but what the heck, just have to spend a longer time in there lo..

a nice table to do one's work if necessary..

i was actually very surprised by the design and make-up of this hotel, the courtyard and mostly the rooms. i could tell that someone actually took the time to design this very aesthetically pleasing place from scratch, when they re-built the place..and to offer it as a lifestyle hotel at a very very affordable price is truly remarkable..and unbelievable. i just hope it stays like this forever..

so..if you are looking for a nice getaway that wont burn a hole in your pocket, look no further than the V Garden hotel in KL.. you can get good deals from here too..and you might also want to explore the neighborhood if you come to stay, as dinghy as it appears to be, it actually holds a treasure of eateries not known to many..and you can tell these places cater to KLites who know where to find good food..without having to use a credit card...

..in smartfone design and technology has to be this..i am so glad i traded in my galaxy S2 for this one..

i'm talking about the new Samsung galaxy note !! a 5.3 incher, 1.4 GHz dual core, super amoled plus monster of a phone that fits so so snugly in my pants pocket. with this, all others just fail by comparison..every app just runs so smoothly and in clear crisp colours too.. and the coolest app on-board has to be the S-memo using their special stylus pen, where i can make doodles on mommy's pictures and then send to her..hahaha but luckily she cant receive as her phone is not so smart..hehe. but right now i'm just gonna let these pics and video do all the talking...coz i'm gonna be so busy playing with my new toy..hehe

and becoz of this, i gonna send my bb and all other smartfone wannabes in my closet to the junk yard....kekekekeke

i'm so happy...wheeeeeeeeeeeeee

so....it was my deepavali holiday getaway lo...haha..didn't really go anywhere lah but decided to go stay at a hotel in town..just to get the feel of like going on holiday somewhere like that lo..hehehee

anyway, the next day me and my friends went back to our new food hunting ground in seri petaling, absent-mindedly walked into the same cafe that we had visited the last time..was about to sit down but suddenly felt the urge to try something else instead..and so we did..

i said to my friends..hey, let's all quickly quickly run out before the waiter comes to take our orders..hehe. so, we got up, pretended to all point to something across the street.. and rushed out. we then walked into this dim sum place just a few doors away..there were like quite a number of people in there but we managed to find one table to sit down..the menu was wonderfully illustrated, sending our expectations up..we just pointed here and there and the order was done..food came very quickly in a few minutes and they looked like these..

first up was this shanghai "xiu loong pau" which my friend wanted. i have to say he orders this particular item every single time we all go makan dim sum..haih..don't know what's so special, looked to me like the "pao" went swimming like that....haha..in any case, he said this one wasn't good as compared to that din tai fung place at empire shopping centre (of coz that was before that place kena
explosion..we await eagerly their re-opening)

next up was this deep fried crispy "woo-kok"..(yam..)..very flaky, quite tasty, not oily at all..in other words not bad lo..i wonder how they make the external pastry part..so flaky, so light and crispy, they sort of melt in your hands..hahaha

this is their hong kong style fried carrot cake "lou pak kou".. again not oily, taste was decent & spicy enough but did not have that oomph factor.. would have been nice if they could add a few more drops of oil when cooking it...and oh yes..maybe turn up the fire a little bit more..?

this is "siu mai" with added fish roe on top.. fresh and crunchy prawn pieces on the inside.. maybe if they had put the more colorful ebikko on top, would have perhaps looked more enticing and taste a bit more seafoody...nevertheless, it was fairly decent in taste..still beats a lot of other places..

this one's crispy prawn roll. one word..NICE..again without the oily residue blotting the paper serviette underneath...hmmm, this place must really pride itself on serving really really non-oily dim sum..is it on purpose or just their recipe, i wonder..?? can't complain i suppose, less oil means more healthy lo..blek.. :OP

..and we saved the best for last. this one is fried "foo-chok" or dry bean curd..very very nice.. crispy, tasty and again, when i held it in my fingers i felt no oil stains..wow !! i could eat this everyday...i give this 5 out of 5.. :O)

all the above came out to less than rm50 !! and it included many glasses of warm water and my 3-layered coffee brew (forgot to take a pic of it coz it was so colorful i immediately drank it..)...cool isn't it, to get this kind of pricing at this day and time for six dim sum items..??

would i go this place again? a definite yes..because i saw so many many other dishes on their menu (mouth watering pics really..) that i would love to check out next time.. they got crabs lah, fish lah, of coz prawns and other meats too & vegetable dishes to make for a full course dinner..

...and more..

so..i was hanging around the seri petaling area yesterday evening and i chanced upon this new section that i've never really noticed before ...wahhhhhh...so many many new eateries there..every shoplot was a cafe or restaurant of some sort..it was approximately a kilometre long from one end to the other..well almost.. and deciding what food to eat was like the most difficult decision i've ever had to make in my life..!!

being a penangite, i had to try out this place called the chopper board cafe. it had the word penang below the cafe name and so i assumed they served penang fare..and of course i ordered the char koay teow. it came out looking like it had all the necessary ingredients for a good plate of ckt.. tastewise, it was quite good, had good wok-hei...but something was missing..?? maybe lard wasnt used for the cooking...and despite my asking for my ckt to be fried with extra chilli, it did not give me a fiery taste and the friendly waiter offering me sambal to add just wasnt quite right..not the way penang ckt is eaten. a friend tried their noodle soup which was deceptively tasty.. i had thought that his noodles came out of a maggi packet but i was wrong..

all in all, it's a good place to have some decent penang hawker fare..i must check out their curry mee and prawn mee next time..

seeing so many cafes in one place got me uncontrollably excited..so i forced my friends to crash another cafe right after..this one i have read about on some foodie blogs..restaurant herbs & spices. the pictures on the walls were just too tempting..i got sucked in by some magnetic force..hehe
i ordered a plate of hainanese chicken chop to be shared..and it was good..the chicken was fresh, and tender on the inside and so so crispy on the outside. i didnt need the accompanying sauce to enjoy it.. it was so good..but i was too full to finish it or to even think about ordering any other dishes..next time will go try this place again..

..so i was up in genting lo for the malaysia day holiday..like most chinese people, i went gambling lo..hahahahaha (not really true..but we get stereotyped anyway...hehe, just like what i'm gonna tell you about the movie we watched up in genting..)

and the good news is i won RM 800 betting on a single number (18) at a roulette table. my only attempt at a table on the second day and my one and only bet on that day..sekali the number came out, i grabbed my money and walked straight out of the casino..wheeeeeeeeeee...

and of course with that winning, i had to belanja my friends all go makan and watch movie lo..and we decided to go see Nasi Lemak 2.0, a movie directed, co-written, and acted by our "infamous" local boy.. namewee....wahlao eh..i thought i was gonna die laughing from beginning to the end of the movie...granted there were a few scenes i didn't quite get or understand, i just laughed because everyone else was cracking up !! on the whole, it was really really boisterously good.. for a first timer at acting and directing..namewee is talented..

a lot of stereotypes were depicted but in a most hilarious way and i don't think anyone of us was offended in that cinema..i saw a mixture of audience, although the majority number of patrons were malaysian chinese..but everyone laughed like mad throughout the movie..i think we all saw the funny side of "us" in that movie.. :O)

i especially loved the curry neh dancing scene, it was so bollywood but yet the song was sung in chinese..and that part about people hiding behind trees & bushes was really steroetypically hilarious..david arumugam's face alone in that scene really cracked me up..and all the acting was quite natural..not bad really.. everyone should go see it..

and i think the language/dialects that are spoken in the movie is rather original..people actually do talk like that out there.. if we only really stop to listen..and i think if we could all take time out to laugh at ourselves once in a while, this country might just be a happier place for everyone of us..

and so after a good laugh and a happy time in genting, it was back to our normal grind again in KL..

...it was a long awaited holiday for me over the past one week during the raya holidays..so off i went with some friends to melaka..

it's been a great many years since i last visited that place and much has changed since then..for one, melaka raya area seems a little bit bigger than previously, a lot more busier than previously and the people much much more than previously...

but it was a leisurely trip for the bunch of us..to just play tourists but of course we avoided those obviously touristy sites like a-famosa lah, the stadhuys lah etc..etc.., and instead just went walk2, cari makan, beli-belah...as in curi2 malaysia...and i tell you, i have never seen such a huge underground shopping complex as i saw in the dataran pahlawan under-field complex.. wow..so many shops, so little time, so so tired from the daily walks in air-conditioned comfort...hahahaa..

but for this post, i just wanna tell you about my discovery of this little art cafe in jonker's walk area..i'm pretty sure it's already famous without the need for me to rave about it...anyway, it was the highlight of our visit to melaka..

it was actually a chance walk-in into this cafe coz we were so tired from walking under the noon day heat and we saw this cute little cafe which seemed to be blowing a cool breeze at us as we walked by...so anyway, i just had to say that this was the BEST tasting nyonya melaka laksa that i have ever ever tasted in my life..it was so good, i almost drank all the soup..the color and texture were almost perfect, the taste was exquisite..really..u go try and see and then tell me..

one of us ordered this somewhat normal looking nasi lemak, although it came with yellow rice (? nasi kunyit..) but i took a spoonful and found it rather tasty despite its plain looks..

this samosa & springroll combo was simple & nice too..crispy on the outside, fresh fillings on the inside..

this is what they are famous for actually..coffee !! i had the ice blended local coffee mix..i think..beats SB or CB any time..

so..if you ever thought about making a visit to melaka, this place is good enough a reason for you to make that visit..the place is called calanthe art cafe.. :O)

...on a side note..see these people queuing up to go into the coffee shop ? it's supposedly one of melaka's famous chicken rice balls outlets....hmmm..the weather was too hot for us to join in the silly queue...maybe next time..

..years really, since i last laid my buds on these fabulous mouth watering delicacies..

i found this place by chance actually while i was going up an escalator with a friend at the pavillion shopping centre yesterday..suddenly, there was this little sign board that screamed out at me.!! come get the best tacos, nachos & other mexican spread - at Popilla !! and then it was a good 10 minutes of frantic, heart palpitating excitement verging on disappointment, searching all over for that outlet at the lower ground food court area...and just when i was about to give up..wah lah !!..like magic, the stall suddenly appeared right in front of me..

this is THE place that brought back memories of a place long gone..almost cried when i saw it..hahahaha (ok..ok..granted this was nowhere near the likeness of Taco Bell, but it was very very close enough...)

ok..well..these fellas dont quite look like mexican amigos but they can sure serve up some really nice mexican feast in a jiffy, like speedy gonzales.. yibba..yibba...andale..!!

and this folks !!..this is the one thing that has been missing from my life for over the last ten years !! i kissed the ground & praised the lord for bringing me my kind of nachos !! just you look at those melted cheddar cheese...wheeeeeeeeeeeelelujah...!!

..and this of course, completed me yesterday..wonderfully crispy taco shell, filled to the brim with spicy minced chicken, laced with an exact amount of sour cream & salsa sauce & loaded with lots of freshly cut tomatoes & crunchy lettuce shreds..all topped up with a hefty sprinkling of grated cheese that just melted in my mouth with every single bite.. uuummmm..yummy.. can you taste it ?

the above plus a drink of pina colada for only rm 12.40..!! unbelievable...

i was in no mood to share with anyone, i had to eat them all, every little bit of it, almost licked the paper wrapper too..at that moment in time, it was just me and my tacos & nachos and nothing else would have mattered... and they were all mine, mine, mine mine...huargghhhh !!

so now..i'm drawing up my next few sunday trips to Popilla to savor their echiladas, burritos..etc..etc..

..give this playground place a visit again since the last time i went there was a bit of a let down..who knows..maybe the chef was in a bad mood that day..haha and anyway, parking spots were plentiful around the cafe lot last night..

i wanted just a light meal as i had not had my dinner yet.. so i ordered the following..

this was appetizer/dessert..haha. it was a supposedly -25C ice floss. i ordered the orange flavored one..it was kinda nice, tasted a bit like ice cream but without the heavy creamy taste, kinda melt-in-the-mouth sweet.. those little pearl-colored balls on the side were nice. they "pop" when you bite into them..like small little eggs..haha

this was my dinner..moonlight fried koay teow..i suppose they called it moonlight was becoz of the raw egg placed on top.. to represent the moon i guess... the taste was sort of bearable but i wish they had not used frozen crab sticks & other frozen processed bits & pieces of seafood. Would have been nice if fresh prawns or squids were used..

well...i guess i would just go back to try other ice floss flavors..

wow..i just discovered this fabulous eating place..and i think this has to be the ultimate-great-food-at-extreme-value-for-money place so far..

a very unassuming seafood restaurant by the highway..the only giveaway is the huge number of people sitting and some standing & waiting for tables to be emptied..the place was really packed yesterday when i was there, but surprisingly, we managed to get a table, put in our orders, and the food placed on our table in less than 15 minutes..

anyway, i'm gonna just let the pics below speak for themselves..

first up was this vegetable curry..totally rich & yummy, full of coconut milk zest !! and you can have fish-head version, chicken, prawns, crabs or whatever you fancy..

..and of course, i had to have my salted egg ration for the day..hehe..this one cooked with mantis prawn..totally awesome..

next was this stir-fried kai lan..first time in my life i sort of enjoyed munching on kai lan...just tells you how good it is..coz mostly i would prefer softer vegetables like spinach or potato leaves, but some how this one won me over..

finally, the toast of the town !! their signature dish - Oyster Omelette..every table had one i believe!! nicely huge and totally fresh oysters were used. just unbelievable how fresh those oysters were..hmm..maybe they had just scooped them out from a fish tank..hehe. my only gripe..the mild chili sauce wasn't exactly appropriate..maybe something spicier might had added even more oomph to that dish..but then again, even without any chili sauce, on its own, the dish was already absolutely tasty..

...and can you believe, the above 4 dishes with rice and a pot of chinese tea for an incredible price of RM50.20 ??!! i think eating in any fast-food joints for 4 persons would have cost much much more...and if you can't resist the temptation after salivating over the pics above, head on over to: foo chuan seafood restaurant at 2580 persiaran raja muda musa in klang (highway leading to port klang..) right this minute .. wheeeeeeee...

oh..by the way, i hear their crabs are really really good too..!! i'm gonna make sure i try that on my next visit..

no, i havent lost my love for all things korean or japanese..just that i havent really come across anything that catches my attention so strongly until this..

for someone with his kind of background, it must have taken him massive amounts of determination to live and an unbelievable passion to still pursue this dream of his..

..a jiffy and really2 hungry for some good food..

there's this place in ss2 pj that serves up quite tasty seafood dishes at the speed of lightning..as in, before you can even say..err...can i have some chili padi...the dishes appear on your table already..that's how fast they take your orders, cook and then serve them to you..all under 10 minutes..

i was there with some friends and we had ordered the following and i was thinking that with a large crowd already seated at roughly 20 tables, we were gonna have to wait a while..but just as one waiter brought the plates, spoons & forks, another waiter started putting our dishes on the table..

this one came up first..eeeeww..one big ugly looking fish BUT hey...the flesh was so fresh and sweet, we just had to overlook the face staring back at us and just gorged away at the meat..hehe

next up was this asam prawns that had a bit of curry sauce in it..it was totally fabulous, there must have been like 8 huge prawns in there coz i ate 3 and there were 5 of us and everyone must have had at least one, i think.. :OP

another fantastic dish..soft shell crabs deep fried with salted egg yolk..we actually ordered two plates of this one coz one plate just wasnt enough to satisfy our lust..hahahaha (why ah...anything cooked with salted egg is nice one??)

then came this huge clams fried "kam-heong" style..clams were huge but we found the meat a little bit on the puny side..if only we could have eaten the shells...hmmm

finally, we also had our token plate of vege..must lah, after all those meaty dishes, we need to ingest some fibres to ease our next morning's businesses right?..dont want to make no hard rock chocolate muffins that refuses to get ejected from our ovens no? ...lol lol

all the above including some drinks and unlimited helpings of rice came to about rm 167-00.. considering that we had altogether 6 dishes that fed 5 of us really well, we couldnt complain..the food was good and tasty enough, almost bordering on excellent..

so if you are in the ss2 area, this place is called paris seafood restaurant and it is located on the same road leading to the ss2 mall.. do go early coz the place can get really crowded..then again, at the rate the food gets served, you'd probably wont need to wait too long.. hehehe

i found myself this website that sells all the latest smartfones & the not-so-smart ones at really really affordable prices..it's so good, i managed to get an excellent deal for some friends of mine on an HTC wildfire-S and also a Samsung Galaxy S II..you can bid for those items or you can buy outright..and those fellas are totally trustworthy and reliable..you make a payment via internet banking, and before you know it, the item arrives beautifully packed by courier within two days..you can also call or sms them and they would always reply..cool fellas..

they also carry models that are often not yet available here (for some reason..) or by-passed by the local distributors...e.g. i almost got myself a samsung infuse 4g but since i already have an sgsII, i had to refrain myself.. trust me, stopping myself on that one wasn't easy i tell you.. i was so very tempted to get the huawei boulder too..

so..go on, i absolutely endorse this virtual shop.. because of the wide variety of models they carry, the fair pricing that are quoted and most of all, friendly dudes with excellent customer care service...

so..happy shopping ya...hehe

i just really really cannot help it..

i saw this one at a stall the other day and i just had to have it !! one look and it was love at first sight..!! i would have sold everything else i had just so i could get my hands on this baby..

what am i talking about??

it's this lo..!!

it's the samsung galaxy S II people !!! ... woot3 !!! (for full specs, click on the link..)

aiyoh..i tell you ah, the super amoled plus screen is so clear i dont need to wear special glasses anymore to see...kakaka, it's so so slim, you could put your hand into my pants pocket & not feel it..!! (..ahhhh but be careful what else you might feel..haha..) and it's dual core processor is so fast, it puts all my previous smartfones to shame...i could like play angry bird, type an sms, watch a video, make a video-call, take a pic on the 8MP camera plus all the while tweeting at the same time without any lag... seriously.. wheeeeeeeeeee....!!

no wonder lah i hear the stocks are kinda limited at this moment cause whatever there is has just been flying off the shelves like nobody's business... wooweee..

been going to this place in subang the past couple of weekends..for food & shopping.. a new "empire" for me to explore..this place has been around for some time already i think. i just never really took the time to go check it out..

my first visit there 2 weeks ago was like discovering a new magical wonderland.. so many nice food outlets, and the supermarket there has all those things that i used to get when i was living in the usa.. wheeeeee..namely fritolays kettle chips lah..and in so many flavors some more..wahhhhh..heaven leh...i tell you.

a bit pricey the items there but i guess that comes with exclusivity..not so pricey as in bvsc but near enough..

so anyway, went there again yesterday and decided to try this place out for dim sum..this place called "din tai fung" located on the 1st floor of the empire subang shopping centre.

spinach stir fried with garlic..nice & fresh, popeye would have been so proud. when eaten on its own, you get the wholesome goodness & power of spinach without the need for any starchy carbohydrates..

Siu Long Pao..whatever it means...supposed to be a very special dish. err..i didnt quite see the specialty in it. to me it was just a wet "pao" but nevertheless, it was tasty enough..

spring roll..i don't quite recall much about this dish. it was crispy i guess, but wasn't really exceptional in taste or presentation..

ah...this one was my favorite. fried won-ton with prawn fillings..add a dash of that super-hot chilli and i was completely lost for words..it's so important that fresh ingredients are used for dim sum items and i must say this place has managed to set some standards..

i had thought this was some sea corals dish when it was served..hehe but it's actually shrimp siu-mai.. again, very fresh ingredients were used and they tasted like they just came out right from the steamer..

the above came up to RM68 and the portions were just nice for two people, including two cups of hot chinese tea..is it expensive? ..hmmm, for a place like empire, maybe yes, maybe not but i'd say it is still good value for money especially when one gets fresh & nice tasting food..

and oh...my visit to empire would never be complete without a cup of coffee at O'briens and their must have packet of irish potato chips..kekekeke

...had a meetup with my uncles, aunt & cousin yesterday and we went for a light meal at this place some where in kuchai lama.. totally recommended by me cousin..amazing place this "new" kuchai lama area, the whole place's just bursting with new restaurants, cafes and eateries and combined with the old ones that are still standing, this area's turning into a foodie's paradise...my last visit to kuchai lama a few years back gave me the impression that it was sort of an abandoned suburban area left behind by everyone and that it had seen better days a long long time ago...

anyway, like i said in my earlier post, i think everyone's just really jumping into the food business.. sometimes, when one's lucky, there's a bull's eye hit, some times, a complete miss altogether, an off-tangent kinda food & place...

but this place that my cousin brought us to, almost hit the bull in the eye.. almost that is if not for the hard sell by the waiter to get us to order bigger portions of food, which was not really that necessary actually...

simple fried sui-kow..nice crispy, freshly made, with minced meat on the insides that dont smell or make you feel like you're tasting the previous week's food..nice, i like it..

not sure about this dish but i think it's yau-cha kwai filled with duck meat plus some veges..i'm not really one to appreciate duck meat, so it was kinda just another appetizer to me.. the mayonaise on the top was a bit too heavy though..

now..this was the purpose for our visit..their hong kong style wan tan mee..the noodles are apparently imported from hkg..!! and i have to say, there's a certain special springiness to it.. with simple light soya kon-lou sauce that lets you taste the freshness of the noodles rather than the saltiness of the dark sauce used locally or the crafty use of char-siew and chee-yoke char to make up for any lack of flavor.. i remember eating just such noodles a long2 time ago on a budget trip to hong kong in search of work.. and i remember thinking how nice it tasted then.. as it did yesterday...

and this one just brought back those memories with one single swallow..

this is the spicy version.. lightly spicy and doesnt overwhelm the natural taste of the noodles at all.. nice..very nice..

so i have to say.. this one is good. a nice little place called "yummy duck" that serves really yummy hong kong style wan tan noodles.. i would go back there again, hopefully soon and that is if i can find my way there on my own.. hehe

..after eating these fabulously fantastic food served..

was taken to this restaurant located smacked right in the middle of a malay kampong area, somewhere in cheras yesterday. i wasnt really keen on having a heavy dinner as i was still feeling a bit full from my lunch earlier..but i got convinced and was told that i would not regret it..

anyhoo..as we approached the restaurant, i could see that people were queueing up waiting for tables outside and the restaurant was just over-flowing with busy & noisy eaters inside..had to wait about 1/2 hour before our dishes arrived..

first up was this vegetable dish that was wrongly ordered..errmm..ok, nothing special except the combination of supposedly crispy seaweed with gently stir-fried choy-sum was rather unique..and could have been fabulous if done correctly as in if the seaweed part were to be more finely shredded..

next up was this special fried rice just over-flowing with ebikko (fish roe)..look at that !! wow..very special indeed. first time i see such an ingenuous presentation. the taste was fishily nice too..hehe and it seemed like every table in that restaurant was having this dish too..

then came my favorite dish..butter fried, but this one using soft shell crab !! just the yummiest soft shell crab i have ever tasted. no need peeling, breaking shells..just plonk them inside the mouth and taste the juicy crab goodness with the crispy egg/coconut bits that kinda just melt in your mouth..

Oooo..just look at that creamy & colourful indonesian curried prawns..hmmm, taste is absolutely wonderful if man-tou (pic below) is used to dip in the sauce, otherwise, on its own can be a bit overwhelming..

freshly baked/fried man-tou. can be eaten on its own too..quite tasty i must say..crispy on the outside, soft on the inside..

i think my cholesterol level must have shot up through the roof after that meal..i certainly felt real bloated, but satisfyingly bloated...haha.. and can you believe RM 85.20 for all the above !!??.. definitely worth the money this one..

i will be going back there to try out other dishes in the near future..and if you decide to check out this place, rest assured you wont be disappointed..

wheeeeeeeeeeee.....

once in a while, i come across a totally unpretentious place serving absolutely fantastic food and that makes me so happy...hehehe

i was just looking around for a bit of dinner cum supper after work last night and decided to walk into this neighborhood cafe...it's called mr kaya kopitiam, in bukit tinggi, klang..saw like a million and one dishes on the menu and just absent-mindedly pointed at their mee goreng mamak without much expectation.

what eventually appeared before me was totally mouth watering in both appearance and taste !! take a look at the pic below..looks yummy eh?

if only all cafes could serve up nice & simple dishes like this deliciously, people wouldn't have to go around searching for good food..

looks like i will be going back to try out the rest of their million and one dishes frequently to see if it wasn't just a one time lucky flash in the pan ...hehehe

on a subsequent visit, i decided to try something else..

this is their version of penang fried koay teow..not quite like penang ckt at all but very tasty nevertheless..

..japanese food for now lo..hehe

was walking around sunway pyramid yesterday because i had to satisfy this huge craving for something and then decided to try out this eating place while waiting for my something to be prepared..the place was kinda crowded, so i thought, must be okay one lo.. mana tahu..

err..this was supposed to be squid lo..tasted flat. the breaded crumbs used not so appropriate lo..like eating those locally made frozen fried sotong like that..luckily not taste like rubber lo..

err...another flat tasting dish, chicken fried rice..i always thought japanese fried rice supposed to be extremely tasty one but this one like my coffee shop fella cook one lo..totally no salt, no aroma..haih..

supposed to be ebi tempura but what i tasted was tepung tempura only ..luckily the prawn no boric acid taste..otherwise, epic fail lo..

my friend ordered this chicken teppanyaki but i think i can make nicer teppanyaki. this one was more like salt-free stir-fried taugeh & cabbage only..the teppanyaki outlet at the pavillion food court is still the best lo..

it seems like everyone's getting into the food industry nowadays..hmm, i think i can open up shop also lo like that, going by the quality of food dished out by some people out there....haih..

nevermind, fortunately hor, my excitement yesterday came from elsewhere....right after that meal, i quickly quickly rushed up to get my "something" lo.. wheeeeeeeeeeeee

BLACKBERRY Bold 3 (9780) !! hehehehehe.. i was using the BB Curve 3G 9300 model for a few months and kinda liking it more and more each day lo.. and i've been biting my nails anxiously waiting for the BB 9900 to be launched but it seems like that is like taking forever and i've got no more nails left on my fingers ah !!..so i really had to go out there and get this one to tie me over for the time being ..or at least until the dusts are settled on the 9900 lo, it being a new OS7 and yada yada yada..and probably gonna be so so expensive when launched anyway..so it'll probably be like a year or so down the road before i think about getting the 9900 lo.. (hmm..but that's what i said when i bought the 9300 4 months ago ..aiyooo..like so deja vu like that eh? ..hehe)

dont get me wrong though, i still get heaps and heaps of fun with my HTC Incredible S but that one's a totally different ball game lo.. but for twitter, bbm, whatapps, emails, nothing beats my blackberry (for now..)...!! hehehehe..

。アニメの土地？いや、これはただの衣装は... (means i thought i was in anime land but no lah..it was just costume play..)

i thought i went to tropicana city mall yesterday but sekali i walked in, i felt like that i was in japan like that..suddenly all these anime characters were alive and walking around, dancing, prancing here & there...aiyooo eh so cute these people..but i also saw characters like captain jack sparrow (who must have landed his ship in japan by mistake) and the grim reaper and and...aiyoo, i also cannot recall all these other movie characters that got caught up with those japanese characters..it's cool i guess for these kids/adults to indulge in their fantasies..luckily hor they don't actually fly, kick, jump, shoot or kill like what they are capable of in the movies..otherwise, it would be real havoc..hahahaha

..so after all that excitement, must of course go eat japanese food right...? hehehe..this time around, we ended up in a very very good outlet..Sushi Tei..nice, the nicest japanese food i've had so far..

this is salmon fried i think..did not think fried salmon would be nice..as usually they are used in sashimi..but this one was not bad..not bad at all..

this is crispy ebi mentai mayo..meaning crispy shrimp with salmon roe & mayonaise..so so tasty, the mixture of shrimp & salmon roe was heavenly..almost melt in the mouth kinda feeling...

negitoro maki fried..is like tuna wrapped in seaweed and then fried..ok..not what i liked but only because i don't really like the taste of tuna..

and finally this is ebi & yasai kakiage or shrimp & vegetable tempura..got bits of fresh onions in there..i thought it was rather nice but my friend said this one similar to the mamak style kuih..ya meh?

i had actually wanted to go to chicken king one, but after seeing those cosplay characters, suddenly my tummy felt like having japanese food..but of course, i got walked2 a few times round and round near the chicken king outlet lo..it was so hard but had to restrain myself from going in lo ..kekekeke. next time, i shall "attack" the chicken king outlet like nobody's business...

i bought a small rice cooker for office use yesterday and decided to try it out today..and here's the result..wahhhh...not bad wor..noodles came out just right, the springy texture was there and all done under 10 minutes !! and it's healthier than using the microwave oven..hehehe

i think i can open a noodle shop ady...what you think? :OP

i had wanted to bring me mom out for a belated mother's day lunch/hi-tea the other day and was wondering where she might want to go eat..then suddenly, some one coincidentally drop off a promotional brochure for a "new" cafe near my office on that day itself... (new as in someone took over an older setup lor..). anyhoo, me and my staff were all going gaga over the foodie pics and thought...hmmm, looks so tasty, let's all go there..

..and of coz, more delicious-looking food pics awaited us at the place as we salivated over their menu, so we just started ordering like nobody's business lo..

and here's what we got..

i could have sworn what i saw on the brochure was a yummy looking bowl of prawn mee (you know, as in har-meen)...this one looked like dead prawns swimming in brown water..tasted like dead prawns swimming in brown water too lo...aiyooo..

this one was their supposedly special vegetable selection..errr..nothing special lo..only edible lo..ok lah, ok lah, at least got taste lo..

another brown looking dish came out...it smelled quite good actually when it was served, and we thought...wah, finally..but then when we took a bite, it tasted like the same dead prawns used in the prawn noodle dish..to be fair, it was very crispy though but had a strong boric acid taste to it..hmmm..maybe it was deep fried "mummified" prawns..but they called it special fried prawns lo..

yet again..another brown colored dish came out..but this one tasted ok actually...it was tau fu broth or was it soup..no, it was broth that had a thick soupy texture to it..aiyah..nvm we slurped it all up anyway, we were that hungry you see..

luckily this one has reds and greens in addition to the brown color..hahahaha and finally we all agreed that this one was actually the best dish of the whole lot..this one is their sweet & sour chicken..(luckily we no ordered the prawn version...kakakaka)

the bill came to rm148 which fed 7 of us..the quantities were rather huge but we were really disappointed with what was served to us..we got conned by beautiful tasty looking food pics again lo..haih..this one epic fail..

then the next day, me mom called to say she got a bad tummy run that morning and wanted to know if we all had the same thing..but no lo..i told her it must have been her vegetarian breakfast that she took earlier that day..otherwise hor..i sure go tell ten thousand of my friends never to go eat there...

woot2..finally managed to trap mommy lizard in this contraption used for trapping cockroaches..we've had to use Jacob's Zero Cholesterol, High Calcium crackers topped with Low Fat Australian margerine as bait because we've tried many other bits and pieces of food and mommy just did not take the bite..!! i think she must be one of those new age health conscious lizzie..kekekeke

see mommy peeking up to see who so brave to go and trap her like that..

no place to run eh...? hehehehehe

so now..what do i do with a trapped lizzie? shall i toast it with marshmallow ? or shall i just boil mommy lizzie to death...huarrgghhhhh!! so cruel me..yeah !!

..just a short post about my recent visit to The Curve to watch Fast & Furious with a friend..decided to go for the platinum class..wah liao..!! each ticket cost RM40-00...aiyooo, but hor there are only like 24 seats in the cinema and all the seats are those that you can recline all the way one..it's like sleeping on the sofa and watching a movie at home like that..the seats are actually quite big leh, big enough for two persons..hahaha but of coz, no one would be so cheapskate to seat two in one lo..got waiter on-standby so want to try also cannot lo..haha and they make the room so so cold like until you have to rent a blanket (RM5 per piece..!!) ..hmmm...good idea actually, maybe i should do the same for my business..hehehe... but i like it that i can just press a button, and a waiter would come take my order..wah seh..the menu not bad also leh..can have fried chicken wings and french fries and haagen daaz ice-cream and etc..etc.. hehe... would have ordered everything on the menu if only i had not gone for dinner at the fish market..which was and is always nice anyway...

their ever reliable fish & chips..honestly good..really good..i've never ventured anywhere else since my first bite years ago whenever i have my fish & chips cravings..

not so well known for their pasta but this one is surprisingly lip-smackingly tasty in a way..must be the combination of olive oil & the bits of herbs in there..and oh..the shrimps were succulently fresh & crunchy too..

the quad appetizer..i suppose a good start to any meal..fresh seafood done right, i must say..and when dipped in their garlic sauce, it's just pure heaven..

oh..this one..this one's actually not on the menu one. but he's so cute, i just had to put his pic up..aiyooo..why do they make babies so cute one??

if only i could order one just like him on a menu.. but he would be priceless though...hehehehe

(he's my friend's baby actually...grrrr so jealous..haha)

it's been a wonderful journey the past 10 months or so..it had really brightened my life in many ways and much more than i could have imagined or hoped for.. ahpooki had been happy on most days during this time..

but i think the time has come for ahpooki to move on....
let's see..what are the changes that may bring forth even greater adventures and amusements..

1) a change of environment..?
2) a change of profession...?
3) a change of friends..?
4) a change of habits..?
5) a change of lifestyle..?

other on-going programs that may help alleviate this transition..

1) a change of smartfones..?
2) a change of cars..?
3) a change of diet..?

such is life, isn't it? we go through the highs and the lows, the joys and the pains, the excesses and the deficiencies and then we die...haha

...somebody actually recommended this place to me lah..told me very nice nice one ah the food..but aduiii....i went round and round and round the whole of bangsar for one hour ++ and still could not find this little place..then i remembered...aiyah, i have my garmin gps in my bag in the trunk wat..ah...so....silly me.

took me less than 5 minutes to find the place after that..hahahaha so sor hai me..kakakaka

from the outside, the place kinda looked a bit alien to that neighborhood, so i spoke to my gps..."eh hullo, u sent me to correct place ah?" and then when i went inside, lagi more alien..it's like suddenly finding yourself like alice in wonderland..everything inside had that fairy tale-built to it, so wood wood, like a little cottage like that..and apparently everything in there is home-made one wor..from the food to the furniture, to the little bits of nick-knacks on the shelves and even the t-shirts hanging on the wall..all also for sale one..wah, very business minded eh..

anyhoo the place was quirky i must say..but in a cute way lo..this place is apparently run by a couple, i hear...one cook, one waiter and they do everything....talk about efficient manpower !! why our gomen cannot run its business with two people? why? why? tell me why..

we saw one empty table, quickly chom the place, then ordered the food lo...

..people say a great way to start (or is it to end..nvm) a meal would be to have a nice cuppa coffee..this is so true..so i asked for a ucc brand original blend (like i know what it is..haha)..smooth, simple silky taste with that great coffee aroma..would have been cute if it was served in a wooden cup by a wooden lady (oops..nvm forget the last bit)..hehe

then came my entree...japanese potato-curry rice with omelette.. very strange curry it was..wonder why japanese people eat curry that is not spicy one? but they put wasabi in everything else.. hmmm...weird curry but tasty lo..

and then came this..my perennially favorite dish anywhere i go..got prawn no prawn also i must order this one one..kekekeke but this particular joint delivered very nicely on this lo... fresh succulent shrimps (aiyah...shrimp/prawn same same lah) in a crispy lightly breaded coat..i actually dipped those prawns in my curry sauce instead of the accompanied mayonnaise sauce..i no like no mayonnaise one you see...

and my friend ordered this silly looking chicken katsu don..which didnt make my friend too katsu-happy..hehehe..i had suggested to order something else but refused..tai-sei lo..sor hai !!

so anyhoo...it was a very quirky eat-out on a slow and lazy sunday afternoon..after which we went to watch the movie "Thor"..wah..good leh that movie, natalie portman can thor me anytime...hehehehehe..and after that was the end to another sunday lo..

had a visit from my aunt last night..

the one that i sent a paper crane to the last time when she was still here in the physical sense...yeah2, that one..

it was around 3am when i saw her floatingly approaching my bed (how come i could see her when i'm all covered under my comforter?? do i have special see-thru eyes..hmmm), she tugged at and pulled down my comforter a bit and then went ....

..BOO !!

i wasnt scared lah..so used to these other worldly visits already...so i actually strained open my left eye to look at her, just to confirm it's my aunt and not somebody else who might have gotten the wrong address..luckily hor, i wasnt naked..so malu only if i was...kakakakakaka

it was her alright...and i said to her..aiyooo, we all miss you so much you know..and she just decided to float away, i think she no believe me lo..haih, next time hor, i shall make ready a pot of tea and invite her to stay for a longer chat..

actually i just wanted to say..."you get real authentic thai dishes at truly affordable prices...at Baan Ruen Thai restaurant."

this thai seafood fried rice (K̄ĥāw p̄hạd xāh̄ār thale..) is so nice. i think they used really high grade jasmine rice to fry..you can almost smell the fragrant aroma just by looking at the pic, no? and the seafood ingredients were rather fresh i must say..

deep fried shrimps (Kûng thxd..). again very fresh shrimps used..i like it that they used bread crumbs instead of batter as the shrimps remained crispy even after some time..

and of course, never forget the always delectable but often abused vegetable, no it's not the cucumber..aiyoo..it's kang kung lah (N̂ả p̄hạk k̄hom p̄hạd..?), this one fried with just garlic and i think they must have used fish sauce too coz it was so tasty i gobbled everything up..

the above dishes with steam rice and two drinks came to only RM39.00 !! talk about unbelievable value for money..good food, great taste, cheap price !!

and so where is this gem of a place located? on the ground floor of menara pgrm in cheras actually and not in thailand..location-wise not a very cleverly visible place unless one lives around that area coz it's hidden from view..

and they have nice tables on the outside verandah where you can just enjoy the food and watch the world go by peacefully without getting knocked down suddenly by passing traffic accidentally..hahaha..

lizards...!!

..eeeks i hate them..!! i really do.

they are so scary to look at...almost like a miniature crocodile !! and lately, i think they've been scouring my utensils at my office pantry licking off any food remnants that might have been left behind, despite having washed them.. and just now as i walked into my pantry to get my lunch, i saw a big bad mommy lizard about to jump onto my plastic food container and chomp2 away at my food !! she being so big, she could just have bitten off the plastic to get at the food..

..and yesterday, i had a really severe and sudden tummy runs..wahhh..almost lost it there but made it just in time to sit on the throne before all hell broke loose !! preagghhhkkk !! pragh2 !! fuit!! fuit !! fuit !! now i suspect it must have been mommy lizard walking and leaving her saliva all over my forks & spoons at night while foraging for food.. eeeeekks !!

i am gonna get me a big cowboy gun (water pistol lah...) and wait and then shoot at it the next time...arrrggghhhhhh!! i hate lizards..hate hate hate...

lives..

so hor, i took my poohki sportz koup out for a spin with a friend yesterday and we decided to visit a very exclusive enclave in bangsar (dont play2 ok..) for dinner..we drove up, down, in out the car park in slo-mo fashion so everyone could go gaga but actually we could not find a parking space lah..and you know hor, every lot was taken up either by a mercedes, bmw, lexus, mini coopers and cars that i dont even know the names of..wah wee..luckily hor, got one nepali guard so enamoured with ahpooki's sporty koup that he decided to let me park at the valet parking spot..right at the front porch of the entrance to the shopping centre...and of coz, ahpooki's sporty koup got all the attention it deserves lo..kekekeke

anyway, we walked walked a bit and pretended like we were some rich folks out for a casual shopping spree...looking at abstract art pieces in a gallery, checking out branded goods that we never even heard of and passed little remarks like.."Ooo..that's cheap.." and then we got tired of pretending and decided we should go eat something..trying to "live" that stiff upper life can be so tiring and famishing..hahaha

we saw one very expensive looking japanese restaurant and was about to walk in but decided against it when we saw a note on the glass door that said, "rest assured our fish come from everywhere else but fukushima"....aiyoh, i thought, hmm, i dont know but that did not sound too reassuring coz fukushima has the nicest & freshest fish in the whole wide world, no? ..so anyway, we decided on a chinese restaurant instead...

first up was this appetiser..

i had thought it was a plate of freshly cut grass (mana tahu kan, maybe eating grass is the in-thing to do nowadays..)..but it's actually shredded seaweed with chicken meat floss..the slightly sweet crunchy crispy seaweed combined rather well with the salty floss ....except, we were a bit too hill-billy so could not eat politely and left most of them seaweed splattered, to which we quickly brush off the table so nobody would notice..hehehe

then came these entrees...

this one was really nice, fresh squid with bits & pieces of spice/herbs & whatever..of course anything deep fried is nice to me..

we did not like this one. supposed to be bak-choy from hong kong..hmmm..found it way too dry (maybe it was preserved bak-choy..hehe) but we pretended like it was some haute cuisine and made some approving nods as the waitresses walked by..

my friend ordered this and i was like...eeeeeeww..ribs..eeeeks. i was forced to take a bite and later that night as i said a prayer before i slept, i asked for forgiveness from miss piggy..

now, this one i like...3 combination steamed eggs..i think it was duck egg, chicken egg and century egg..this one my friend did not like.. told me how century eggs are made...that is by mixing chicken poop with the yolk..that's why the color looks like shit !! whatever...it was nice tasting poop anyway..hahahaha

so..our adventure was soon over and we were rm 106 poorer after that meal..we could not finish the food and asked for a doggy bag..my friend's mom was one happy dog that night...kakakakakakaka..

and now it's back to yum2 instant noodle days for ahpooki...wheeeeeeeee

my hot rod..wheeeeeeeee...havent really taken it for a spin on the highway yet but a whiz round the neighborhood left dust floating onto some old aunties' hair at the market..heheheehe. this car is fast man, really, really fast..

and if looks could kill..this baby actually left every man, woman and child (plus all the uncles & aunties..) in freeze motion yesterday as it went blazing through the neighborhood with ahpooki at the wheels...and his wonder girls blaring out their nobody2 but you through the sun-roof..kekekeke

i am so gonna enjoy this car..hmm but where go ah?? must think of a place where i can do 0 - 60 in 3 seconds...

good location leh..i think

went to this new place that just opened recently..it wasnt our intended place but since it looked kinda groovy from the outside, we decided to brave the crowd and squeezed ourselves in there..

traffic was not too heavy going in, surprising, considering that it is a brand new mall..could be that not too many people knew about that place..but once inside, we kinda understood why there weren't that many people there..

half the mall were basically filled with mostly furnishing shops..beddings lah, kitchen things lah, home improvements lah, etc..etc..with the few token food outlets on the ground & lower ground floors plus a number of stalls selling nick-knacks and basically another half of the mall that were not yet occupied...so at this moment, it was more like a family oriented mall..

anyway, we decided to try out a new foodie place..a strange looking little place seen from the outside with the tables & chairs that looked a bit feminine & flowery but one look on the menu told us the food just might be nice..

so..these were what we had..

nice macaroons esp the tiramisu one. the orange one was way too sweet for my liking..

nice potato platter except the roundish thingy wasnt that great..but overall, we found the potatoes quite fresh, and the dip was not bad either..

my friend had this pizza..i took a slice..taste was nice, cheese toppings were just about right but would have been nicer if there was a thin crust version..

now..this one wasnt so great though..the onion rings and the spring rolls were ok but the chicken wings had one of those frozen smell/taste to it so i stopped eating after one bite..

ok..now this one was kinda nice...the nacho chips were flaky & crispy and light..i loved it..but a little more cheese on it would have been nice. i was scrapping the plate for some left-over cheese that were stuck to it..but the guacamole & salsa were a bit flat..still, the light crispy chips used kinda made up for that shortfall..

..paid rm95-00 for the above including two fancy drinks..i had iced mango tea with cubes of real mangoes in them..which was really cool.

anyhow, next time, i should really try to avoid ordering all those crispy fried foods and go more for pasta or soupy stuffs...

ladies & gentlemen, i present to you...Yum Yum Green Curry Flavor Instant Noodles..wheeeee

the taste is unlike any other brands, with the correct balance of spiciness and crunchy, stringy noodles..and it's quite simple to make..just follow ahpooki's recipe/methodology (in previous posts) and you can have the nicest yummy instant noodles in under 5 minutes..hehe

and...if you add a bit of fresh ingredients like a piece of chopped up NZ portobello mushroom, a bit of fresh red pepper, fishballs and an egg..you can have a bowl of green curry noodles that tastes & looks even better than what can be served in any fancy thai restaurants...

my phone camera settings were not too proper..the real thing looked a whole lot better than what you see here..hehe

so..if you're into instant noodles like i am on a regular basis and you are tired of all those other noodles that pretend to look good on the packing, claim to be nice but taste totally awful when prepared, go on now, and i mean right this minute, to the nearest jaya jusco supermarket and grab yourself the most heavenly tasting instant noodles on this side of the world...before they are all gone !!

they come in a pack of 5s..make sure you see those thai inscriptions on the packing so as to ensure you get the real authentic yum yum brand thai instant noodles, made in bangkok thailand.. kekekekekeke

aiyooo..literally no eye see lo..

just got a pair of spectacles and it almost shocked me blind !! woooweee..cost me rm 680 for this silly gadget that i hang on my nose..

didnt know that spectacles can be so expensive one..the sales lady told me it's because the lens are multifocal ones, means i can see far far and near near also, no need to change glasses one...just have to look straight ahead for far vision and look down when i'm reading..but hor, when i do that, my head spin so bad like i want to vomit like that. so i cannot look up down too fast, otherwise pengsan !! plus she didnt tell me that i get panoramic view as bonus..!! it's like i'm in a fish tank like that..aiyoooo..how to get used to this? i sure hope i dont hit a tree when i'm driving..

wah seh..i was thinking i could have bought myself another smart phone for that kind of money...kakakakaka...but what the heck, have to wear glasses, have to lo, it's either that or i go half-blind...

i chanced upon this little cafe last night after taking my picky sports for a bath..decided to walk in to try something even though i already had my dinner..i told myself i should not even think about eating but their food pictures on the wall looked so good, i just had to try..

a quick glance at their menu showed quite an extensive range, both local & western. i noticed a few people at the tables eating away happily..and most were having some chicken or steak meals..hmm those must be good. i decided to try something local instead..so i ordered their sambal lou shee fun..took one chopstickful and i was in sambal heaven already...so goooooood..never had such nice lou shee fun before. now i just cant wait to try out all their other dishes on the menu...wheeeeee...

this little cafe is located near the burger king/shell station..a small little cozy cafe with really nice food.. makes me happy when people serve nice foods..hehe

update:
i went back to the happy cafe again last night as i wanted try their other dishes. one look on their wall poster and i decided to order the butter mantis prawn rice..it looked so good i could just eat the poster..hehe

the real thing that came was even better..i just couldnt believe it..!! how can something that taste so nice and so presentable escape me all these years of scouring for food in this small neighbourhood..aiyooo?? looks like i'm gonna be eating there every single day of this year...wheeeeeeee

another update:
i went for another meal at happy village cafe...hehe..bumped into the chef/owner as she came out of the kitchen for a drink. complimented her on her cooking..but she cautioned that some times she goes on holidays and some assistants take over the cooking (hmm..meaning, may not taste as nice..)
see this awesome cantonese fried ying-yong. nice..very nice. the texture was just perfect, starchy enough..not like those watered-down versions served at other places..

..finger licking (now that kfc has abandoned this tag-line, i can use it..hehe) fantastic tasting good curry chicken, made the old fashioned way - in a kitchen, with a fresh bird of chicken, curry powder, coconut milk and a million and one secret herbs & spices recipe concoction passed down over the generations..

and all that has to be laboriously prepared, cooked & gently stirred for hours to bring out the correct texture, colour, aroma and consistency.. just look at those pics above..yummeh isnt it? see the chef stirring the pot..very tiring one you know..coz must do it gently at a certain rpm (revolutions per minute), must not be too fast or too slow one..

and where can one find such a delightfully tasting specialty dish? well..the exact location is a secret (just like the recipe..) it is somewhere in bukit merah, singapore, that's all i can reveal..but if you're dying to have a taste, you'd have to contact my friend in singapore..coz it was her mom who made that dish magical...or you can go to bukit merah, stand in a corner, catch a whiff of that aroma and just follow your nose..the trail will lead you there...

..i had 4 helpings of those..that's how good it was..if i hadn't stuffed myself so much earlier that day, i might have gone for 8...i wonder if i could arrange for dhl deliveries to me everyday..hmmm....

so..right after my trip to singapore, i had a one night stay back in my sty before heading towards port dickson for a 2-nite stay at a resort with some relatives..

talk about expensive food and stay..wow..

was trying to check-in to our chalets at 3pm but the rooms were not ready. so off we trotted to the cafe for a bite while we waited. my nephew ordered a lasagna which came out so tiny and little he practically walloped it all in two spoonfuls. i was a bit luckier...my fish and chips came in a very slightly bigger portion but that too i finished very quickly and was hungry after that..all my relatives had funny looks on their faces when they finished their meals....hmmm..maybe they too were hungry still...and i nearly swallowed my tongue when the bill came...

it was a good getaway for the family anyway with nothing much to do in pd except laze by the pool, go walk on the beach and just eat and eat...again..
the evenings were nice as we watched the sunset and searched for places to eat along the coast..and food tasting became our escape for those two days there..

we also had a pretty bad dinner at one crowded seafood restaurant on the first night. all the dishes came out so bad i didnt bother to take any pics.. but it was food anyway and we just chomped down on them happily..later that night we went to the resort's all nite cafe..you see, we had a rm50 food voucher to use, so we had one char koay teow (rm28 !!) and a fruit basket to go...and our voucher was eaten up already. we ended up cooking cup noodles that i had bought in singapore in the rooms...coz the ckt wasnt enough to go around..hehe

..ya singapore?

i thought the post on my recent visit to you was kinda a bit too brief to do you justice..so okay, i'm gonna expand a little bit more here..

one of my side visits while there was to their friendly neighborhood McD.. :O) and Oooo..they had quite different burger/chicken meals there compared to here.. Samurai Burger & Spicy McWings caught my attention !! the chili sauce was different too.., so bright and lip-stick red..and somehow the chicken tasted kinda healthier?? nvm..maybe my tongue was just playing tricks on me...

then on the second day of my visit, just prior to rushing back to my beloved "tanah-air ku", my friends took me to Bedok Town hawker centre for some delicious street foods, singapore style..

my first hunt was for their version of ckt. the char koay teow tasted weird (what to do? every version of ckt must compare to penang one mah..hehe) but decent enough...hmm, i think i can live with that..

the chicken rice was however absolutely fabulous. never have i seen such healthy-looking and nicely presented plate of chicken rice from a stall ever !! my goodness, i kept wondering.."how come so clean one this chicken? can eat one ah?"..and of course, it tasted like what good, clean chicken rice should..

then i also had this funny looking kon-lou meen (dry noodles) which was strangely wriggly but with a naturally springy quality to it and it was kinda nice too, maybe because it wasn't massively coated with huge amounts of boric acid that i'm so used to over here..hmmm

...and so after that, i rushed back, flew across the causeway and got completely lost in JB..and all the while thinking about that can of ice lemon tea i had in bedok..filled with envy, confusion, and a tinge of sadness..

anyway, au revoir..let's hope we meet again..soon enough.. :O)

so i went to singapore over the cny holidays...the drive there was such a breeze. got from my house to my friend's apartment in exactly 4 hours...was waved away by our jb immigration without even a smile or look from immigration officer's face but was suddenly so warmly welcomed and greeted on the singapore side..what a difference..!! even the cleaners at the woodlands checkpoint said gong xi fa cai to me while i was asking for directions to go get the autopass card..wow !!

anyway, it was an orgy of food and more food at my friend's relatives' as we went around visiting..man, those singaporeans can really eat !! was talking to my friend's dad during one of those visits, he, now a grandfather, had originated from kampar, perak long2 time ago, and told me of stories about how he could not get any work during his youth because of his ethnic background, how he came to singapore, took in all kinds of works and managed to raise a large family..he still spoke with a smattering of malay words..i was impressed with his courage, his tenacity and endurance in the face of those odds that were stacked against him by his country of birth..and his subsequent success in life in a new country that accepted him as one of her own..

it was a brief visit to a "different" country, so near, yet so far...i did not manage to catch in all the touristy sights or visit the new sentosa island resort due to time constraints but what i could just see from the balcony of my friend's apartment in pasir ris, with pulau ubin in between and pasir gudang at the far end in another country, the view could not have been any more distinct or divergent..

eeeeeeewww... haha

that somehow came across my mind while watching this movie, when britt and kato were having massive fist fights over leonore in one scene..were they really fighting over her or was it a case of over-platonic jealousy? (whatever that means..haha) or when britt was knocked out for 11 days by kato's sleep pellet gun, and britt awoke later to ask if kato had put diapers on him..hmm, anyhow, it was a silly movie, but one that was simultaneously quite funny and entertaining .. the lines were not really smooth at times and one could hardly decipher what kato said most of the time, he did however steal the scene with his presence everytime (talk about someone having a real screen presence, wow..!! hollywood should come a-begging soon i think)..but nevertheless, the chemistry was definitely there between these two leads, the actions were funny and explosive, and the bad guys were truly cartoonish, if not outright silly.. so if you are not having too high of an expectation, this movie should be entertaining enough and worth the price of the ticket.

this is truly one strange superhero/sidekick movie..i had fun watching it..sort of..hmmm

NOoo...not those berries, i meant a BlackBerry..

Never thought i would get one, but one i did get, after all those taunts from friends who are die-hard berry users...i just had to see for myself what all the fuss was about..hmmm

...and my conclusion is..it's actually quite much ado about nothing..nothing as when compared to my HTC Desire HD running on android 2.2 (woot2 !! wheeeeeee...)..okok, maybe it's rather efficient at running those instant messaging apps especially with the rather functional qwerty keypad..but that's about it. i cant play my angry bird on it, i cant watch a movie on a full panoramic 4.3 inch screen, i cant pinch or separate the screen to enlarge the views and i cant download those nice & wonderful apps freely coz it's only got 256MB memory..aiyoo..and what a blackberry can do, i can also do on my HTC, plus much much more...

so, unless i am some big hot shot businessman who just needs to get alerts from his e-mails like every other second, i might not really need a blackberry..plus nowadays, still got people use e-mails one meh?? pfft...kakakakka !!

...had one of my other-worldly rendezvous again last night..!!

again, a big party. wah liao, it seems like it's party all the time there huh..so many people, both dead and alive..looked like a disco party and dad was taking centre stage this time, strutting like travolta..

then it appeared that we were all stuck inside a cave, just like the wild dancing scene in matrix revolutions..and then all of a sudden, everyone was running to get out of the cave, like an escape to somewhere...a light coming through a small opening in the far wall, big enough to squeeze through. but as we appeared one by one into the light, i could see that those who were not of the "flesh" just erupted spontaneously into flames and ashes flew & drifted into the light...then i woke up in the middle of the night sweating like a naked pig in a freezing room...so i decided to sleep with the light on thereafter..and woke up this morning feeling totally exhausted..

all this has to mean something..why is it always a gathering of some sort? always like a party..and always, a mixture of people, dead & alive..but nobody talks..why? what's the message?? why the similar scene again and again..

on a more fun note..i just traded-in my satria neo for a kia picanto..hehehehe. silly hor..but that cute little car is gonna be wonderfully thrift to zip around town in..hehe

..to fry one for nice mee goreng..

let me show you a more healthier way of cooking mee goreng without needing a wok..

first, get yourself a packet of sambal udang pan mee goreng as shown..

then add about 400ml hot boiling to ceramic bowl, throw in an omega-3/DHA/zero cholesterol egg and then the noodles..

now put the bowl into microwave oven for exactly 3 minutes..

once cooked, take out bowl and drain away all the water.. be careful not to scald your fingers with hot water..

now add the condiments that come in the pack..make sure to stir & toss gently and thoroughly for the flavor to be infused completely..

then transfer the noodles onto a plate and serve... wah lah..!! mouth-watering isn't it?

yep..went to see The Tourist yesterday. was kinda hesitant after reading the not so great review about the movie in the star the day before..

..but..i went anyway, and boy, was i surprised ?!! wow..never seen angelina jolie so sexy in all her movies. so classy, so elegant, so so aristocratic looking..well, i suppose the movie was all very much about her, that i agree, but it was part & parcel of her character, and she played the role so effortlessly, so beautifully, and johnny depp was naturally delightful & funny too.....

to that stupid person who wrote that bad review, please lah, if you wanted all those actions and explosions, you were looking at a different genre. this one exudes european charm, silliness and idiosyncrasies..luckily i did not pay too much attention to your review, otherwise i would have missed my sunday evening with her..!! sometimes i wonder where the press get all these people to write reviews..pffft..!!

Sometimes with the vast amount of special effects extravaganzas, monsters movies and super hero vehicles going around, you can't help but get a bit bored with them after a while. They have a numbing effect the brain and they can get very tedious. As viewers we need a break occasionally. That's why it's always nice just to sit back, relax and watch a straightforward story where good actors do what they're trained for: act. Without a CG creature in sight… And that's exactly what we get here: two good actors having a great time with a slight, though still extremely entertaining and watchable story.

Johnny plays a lonely guy called Frank who, while on holiday in Europe, is approached on a train by a mysterious and beautiful woman called Elise (Angie – who else). Little does he know, however, he's actually being used by her as a decoy to shift police attention from her lover - a financial 'whizz-kid' who ripped off a scummy criminal and now owes the British government over 700 million euros in taxable funds. In a case of mistaken identity, the angry criminals assume Frank to be her thieving lover and he ends up being plunged into a whole web of intrigue, pursued by both the cops and the robbers. At the same time, he's trying to battle his own increasing infatuation with the enigmatic Elise, who keeps ditching him at every turn, but who - in the grand tradition of romps such as this - keeps ending up being thrown into dire situations with him, despite her best efforts.

This is a rather sophisticated and old-fashioned movie and its all the better for it. It would be easy to imagine this being made in 60s with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn starring in the lead roles. As Frank, Johnny Depp - who really does look about ten years younger than his actual age - once again shows us why he's one of the best out there. It's easy to imagine George Clooney – surely the aforementioned Grant's heir - playing this role, but Depp is more effective and brings a more earthy quality, able to play both plain and debonair at the drop of a hat.

Similarly, Angelina Jolie is convincing as the conflicted mystery woman Elise, and puts in a nice understated performance while at the same time never looking better. The chemistry between them flows off the screen. In fact the interplay between them for the first 40 minutes is absolutely brilliant. You know something is good when simply the sight of two people conversing is keeping you entertained.

It's a jet setter of a story, mixing a bit of James Bond with a dozen mistaken identity movies. It's lightly Hitchcockian, but in a good way, though it probably wouldn't have been as effective had it had been set completely in the United States. As with the Bourne movies, the European locales prevent it from being just another run-of-the-mill thriller while adding something romantic and unique to it. The photography is gorgeous and the film itself ends up being a good advert for European tourism as all the locations come off looking magnificent.

The story moves along fast and there's plenty of engaging action sequences, the stand out being one involving boats. The supporting cast is good, though Paul Bettany has a somewhat thankless role that requires him to do little more than be grumpy while at the same time barking down a microphone at every available occasion. But it is good to see Timothy Dalton (the best Bond bar none) in an acting role again. Even if it only ranks as an extended cameo, he dominates the screen whenever he's on. Somewhat appropriately, he's even in the position his boss 'M' was in his own Bond movies - a guy who sits behind a desk handing out the missions and giving all the orders rather than taking them. It's almost like James Bond has been promoted to top dog!

There's also another Bond connection (are all these intentional?) in another supporting player Steven Berkoff, who played a slimy Russian general in 1983's Octopussy. Here he plays a similarly depraved and ruthless criminal who's actually British, but surrounds himself with a pack of Russian heavies. He also has the most sadistic scene in a movie that can't really be classed as being overly violent.

Even if it's not the kind of dark Euro thriller you might be expecting, this is still a very entertaining movie that will keep you hooked all the way. It's got everything: action, suspense, comedy and romance. And even if that's not enough for you, certainly the interplay between Depp and Jolie will be. They're really effective in this and display the kind of chemistry we haven't seen since the heyday of the movies, the most recent example probably being Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. Based on this, hopefully they'll work together again sometime in the near future.

Yes, it's all very old-fashioned stuff and you will feel like you're caught in a time warp to the 60s. It's also a bit lightweight and fluffy, but you know what? When you have a cast this good, just go with it. I enjoyed very minute of it. And if you give it a chance, you will too.

and what we got.. the crab claws somehow lost their taste as they journeyed from alaska to our table & i could have sworn we got only half the claws compared to what's shown..hmmm., in any case they were totally flat, and at rm85.90 for that platter, was rather over-priced for flat-tasting crab claws .. so maybe ratings about 2/5 (for those claws)

my quad platter. nothing exceptionally unusual. tasted like fried stuffs..ratings 3/5 (the garlic butter sauce used to be richer i remember..hmmm, maybe they ran out and had to add water to it.. :OP)

this was probably the most tasteful dish of the lot. The shrimp spaghetti olio/pasta whatever ...nice..very nice..

i would give it 5/5

and of course their "chiew-phai" standard. the ever reliable fish & chips..
this one about 4/5

and finally, my appetiser that came last..hmm. i thought appetisers should come first one..anyway, this one was supposed to be country fried mushrooms. they used to use whole button mushrooms, but now they are cut up in bits and pieces and then fried in batter. times are bad i guess..this one got 2/5

so, in conclusion, the food was more or less expected, with the exception of the shrimp pasta which i thought was extraordinarily nice. i was however somewhat disappointed with the sauce accompaniments. tasted to me like watered-down versions of the original mfm sauces..especially, the garlic butter sauce..

it looked like i ate enough fried stuffs to last me the whole year. next year, it's gonna be steam-boat !! wheeeeeeeeee...... :O)

total bill came to about rm200 for 6 persons..hmm, wonder what food we would have gotten elsewhere for that money..

..no, i'm not talking about the shell V-power petrol here..nor am i talking about anything remotely naughty for that matter..hehe

it's just my recipe for a most delicious Yum Yum creamy tomyum shrimp noodles, a most ingenious concoction that will take you to tingling taste-buds heaven in 3 minutes !!

so..this is how u do it..(pls follow steps very2 closely, one misstep and disaster awaits you !!)

1) first, take a nice deep porcelain bowl, break an egg into it, do not stir
2) then add about 350ml of hot boiling water gently
3) then add the seasoning that comes with the pack
4) put the whole ensemble into a microwave
oven and cook on high heat for 90 seconds
5) now, take out bubbling hot tom-yum soup and add the noodles, plus throw in a half teaspoon of crispy prawn chilli. take a second to smell its distinct aroma, then..
6) put the bowl back into microwave and cook on high for another 90 seconds
7) take out the almost finished product and add a bit of fried shallots for extra ooomph..

and now, it's ready to give you unspeakable gastronomic delights...woot3 !! (now..if only i had 3 huge prawns to cook with..)

so simple, yet so fabulously delicious... i always wonder why the Thais are so good at making their instant noodles. our local brands just pale so much in comparison..haih..

...this has got to be the best fried chicken i have tasted so far, i think.. hehe

was at Tropicana Mall yesterday to watch a movie (Tron) but before that had dinner at the ChicKing outlet. wasn't really expecting much even though i was really enamoured with the posters of their fried chicken on display. had to be careful after the con by the fake cheesy potato the other day. nowadays, must never be too trusting of nice foody pictures..haha

so i ordered a two piece set that came with mash & coleslaw but asked for an exchange for 2 mash potatoes instead. my initial apprehension was proven right again when i opened the covers to the mash potato cups. they were so watery they were like potato soup..aiyooo. too much gravy or not enough potato? hmmm..But..one taste and it made me feel better. i even ordered some french fries to dip in the potato "soup".. maybe they purposely made the mash potato that way, so one can have a pseudo-soup or have it as potato dip, at the same time...hehehe

what came next truly made my day. from appearance, the chicken looked just like any other hot & spicy fried chickens out there, not extremely impressive. but one bite and i was in fried chicken heaven. it was crispy on the outside (everyone in there was making so much "krok2" sound), with soft tender meat on the inside, and the taste was rather quite exquisite..had a bit of spicy taste to it with a hint of garlic..yummmeh.. the only let down was i asked for a thigh and wing but i was given a wing and a breast. a bit strange that people working in chicken outlets cannot differentiate chicken parts..and the fries were quite on par with McD's if not better i would say.. they were quite good actually, very crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and most importantly, without that artificial potato taste..

<------- very clean looking fries, not oily or soggy.. if only i had some cheesy dip to go with them, would have been absolutely orgasmic..hehe ... and oh btw...Merry X'mas ya...

..i got my HTC Desire HD smartfone about a week ago. been keeping really quiet about it coz i wanted to play around with it first before giving my opinions..

well...so far, so damn good ah..!! actually, IMHO, it's probably one of the better if not the best smartfones to have come out from HTC. i'm still having loads of fun exploring all it's capabilities. My only gripe, err well, got two actually...is 1) the battery life really sucks. lasts about a day or less when i use the browser actively, with social networking in between, make a few calls here & there etc..wish it would at least last 2 days or more. even when i switch off the internet connection and all background auto-sync processes, i could perhaps stretch the standby to about 3 days max. well..with a few sms messaging and a few calls done & maybe played a short game or two... 2) the battery & the SIM/SD covers look a bit retarded and not really compatible with the rest of its body, not exactly an engineering marvel i would say..but what the heck..the android 2.2 with the HTC sense UI still amazes me..

but...otherwise, i like the big 4.3 inch screen, the display bright & sharp enough despite being an LCD and not an AMOLED screen, the 8MP camera took really good pics, plays videos wonderfully but the speakers were a bit of a letdown...even when volume is pushed to the max. guess using a headphone would resolve this. switching between apps was really fast, the browser connection and downloads were just as good too. i'm still learning to use the navigation app, so cant really tell how good that is yet..but i'm sure it'll work quite well..

anyway, if you guys have a bit of money to throw around (like about rm 2299..), you might want to go check this phone out. i hear the demand is much much more than the supply can handle at this moment.. so discounts may not be so freely given for now..

but if you are short of cash and yet still want something that looks just as good as the htc desire hd plus having similar hardware specifications, then check this out instead..

considering the fact that we are one of the largest motor vehicle markets in the asean region, the number of car exhibits and the number of players who took part, were kind of disappointing...

i'm talking about this years klims (kuala lumpur international motor show) held at the putra world trade centre recently...or for that matter the annual klims event for as long as i can remember..hmm

the models (cars i mean) on display were either already available on the road or about to be launched, with 4 exhibit halls and a quarter of that space already taken up by proton & perodua, there weren't that much space left to accommodate any other makes..or maybe they just decided it's not worth their while to participate...

anyhow, i guess at rm20 per entry, not much should be expected...and if you can just see the below pics i took, then you would have seen pretty much most of the exhibits at klims..i didnt bother to take every single car model on display as they were like those movie extras, just to make up the numbers or maybe just to fill up leftover space

..but all's not lost when i managed to catch this really cute & funny lady "promoter" (i think she'll scream if she ever hears someone calling her that..hehe) at the asimo (honda) exhibit. she was like talking non-stop while riding on a one wheel anti-gravity, almost gyroscopic-like type of gadget, and wheezing back & forth and across the stage the whole time...chatting about this robotic vehicle that she's sitting on and talking about having insights (that produced the asimo vehicle) that can change the world we live in..(hint2, hmm must also be referring to the honda insight)....oh man, she's such a natural, all those cajoling, and teasing and interacting with the audience..she's good, really good especially when all her facial funnies get shown on a huge projector screen !!....(she's the last pic on the bottom right)..

i actually spent > 30 minutes just listening or rather getting entertained by her.. i believe the organizer should just pay her the rm20/ person entry charge cause she deserves it..!!

so..i went to watch this movie last sunday with a friend. it wasnt really planned. we just happened to be walking around at berjaya times square and wah lah..the cineplex was right in front of us..and we saw the poster for this movie..

Now Showing "The Social Network"...woot2..we've been wanting to watch it since a while back..and it was perfectly beautiful timing on that day..nothing to do on a sunday, walking around in a shopping complex, no new handphones to buy and too early still for dinner...hmmm

...anyway, it was good from the minute it started to the end when the credits rolled. a pretty good insight into the minds of geniuses (hmmm..as compared to us mere mortals who are more on the idiotic side i guess..hehe), the drive and focused aspirations of these entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams, plus the necessary "wild and treacherous" lifestyles that must accompany such dreams.. :P

in any case, it's amazing to kind of be able to see how a small idea, sparked by an emotional incident, eventually gave rise to a global social networking platform and in turn revolutionizes the way we communicate with each other..wah and they say big successes come from small things..hmmm..so true eh??!! you guys should go see it..

..what was that all about?

had gone to watch a movie at the pavillion with a friend yesterday. we were queueing up for the tickets and just really wondering which movie to go for, when my eyes saw this really interesting poster of the movie "Skyline" on the wall and i thought, wow..looks kinda cool, looks like it could be quite interesting..let's go for it..

5 minutes into the movie, i turned to look at my friend with this OMG expression on my face and i had the same reaction from him..urrgg..i think the alien got me there and then, and that was it, until the end of that movie..i was totally stunned, frozen in an alien timeline, unable to move my limbs or keep my eyes open to witness the continuous assault on my numbed senses...i fell asleep.........

anyhoo, i had a pretty nice italian pizza for dinner at the valencia in taman segar after that, so all was not lost despite the gloomy weather and the really2 horrible movie.. hehe

but...looks can be deceiving like they always say...

..had a family dinner just yesterday at this little restaurant near my place. as usual kinda crowded and this time i noted an extension to another portion of the building. hmm, business must be good. and i remember the dishes served here to be rather tasty and nice...but that was like about a year ago..and so, we ordered the usual array of seafood dishes and our expectations were reminiscently high..

but alas..we were somewhat disappointed. the dishes came out looking really mouth-wateringly good but when we tasted them, something was missing..we felt it was kinda salty in the deep fried sotong with pepper, the crabs were fresh but were rather tasteless despite the salted eggs added, curry fish-head looked really good but tasted quite bland..

the only one that was nice were the prawns with spring onions, which were fresh & succulent and perhaps coming in second was the stir-fried asparagus & french beans, again probably as a result of the fresh prawns used.

all in all, it wasnt the best dinner we had but considering the price for 7 seven persons at RM232, it was reasonable..the portions were really huge though..

so if you are into huge portions of seafood at reasonable pricing, although not as tasteful as you'd want it to be, you may want to check this place out. maybe you can get lucky with tonnes of other dishes that we didnt try.. :O)

..had this weird dream that kept playing the whole night..

..it was like i had a wife and a kid, a nice little family, but i was able to go back and forth in time and view the connections i had with them. and in each period of time, we would somehow come together as a family...through the ages. and in one of those time-porting experiment, i was able to leave a pen mark on my "wife's" hand and fast-forwarded to another time, sure enough, she bore that mark on her hand..woooweeee..this dream telling me something? coz i got no wife and kid neh....hahahahahaha !! on the other hand, i suppose it just kind of confirms for me the probable "existence" of reincarnation, rebirth, recycle whatever (haha), never-ending life yadda, yadda, etc..or maybe it's just my imagination gone wild or perhaps the fear that death would one day consume me and i'm working hard to come up with all kinds of excuses to come back to this world..Oooo..but the thought of having to go first before i can come back is a bit scary,no? Why hasnt anyone come up with any no-need-to die pill??

on another note, my affair with the HTC Desire was brief, very beautiful but very very brief. hehe.. coz i really should have gotten this one in the first place !! but it's better late than never.. kekekeke :) you see HTC, although i like the solid feel of your body, your Sense UI that works so well with android, Samsung Galaxy's super amoled screen and it's built-in 16GB internal memory just bowled me over....and now i can install like a thousand apps on my phone...hehehe !!

i could just about eat this every single day but i dont (need to keep fit ma..)...haha

i have come across many many stalls selling nasi lemak but so far none is comparable to this one..this particular one looks simple, but leaves a lingering taste in your mouth for hours after eating..the sambal is extra spicy with a tinge of sweetness in it, and the sambal prawns are absolutely yummy !! and with a fried egg, cucumber, anchovies and peanuts like what you see in the picture, you could be in nasi lemak heaven for a while. all these for RM3.80 !! the stall is open from 8am until it gets sold out by 10am..so you need to go there early if you want to have all the extras..!!

if any of you guys are in the bukit tinggi area (the one in klang that is..), this table-top stall is right in front of the hong leong bank (on mon to fri only), you cant miss it...

...was walking around the digital floor at sunway pyramid yesterday and saw this at the HTC outlet..kinda cute, nifty little bugger.. noooooooo..i did not buy another smartfone although i would have loved to, if only i had unlimited funds...haha..but anyway, just to let you smartfone newbies or wannabees out there know, this one is actually rather cool, very very affordable (ori set at RM 799 only) and gives a pretty good introduction to the world of smartfones..remember the time when u had your first mobile phone? yeah?..and you had that excited & expectant feeling as you contemplated a whole new world of adventures awaiting you...

well, it's the same feeling with a smartfone. a whole new dimension we're talking about here. My advice is.., take it nice and slow....let the HTC Smart be your first love and when you find that you need more out of your smartfone, then you can move on to the HTC Desire or HD2 or god forbid even an iphone (pfft..) as your next gadget..or it could be that perhaps you're just thinking of throwing away that old silly looking nokia, SE or samsung mobile phone that you've had for ages and wanting to try out something new, then rest assured the HTC Smart wont fail you..

..and although it is not in the same league as the HD2, Desire, HD mini etc..etc..it is nevertheless sufficient to get you connected to your friends quickly and very efficiently too, i.e twitter & facebook apps built-in...and of course, what's a smartfone without the necessary camera and 3G connection and this one has them plus a bit more..do check out the specs and if you are near any HTC shop, go ahead, take a look at this beauty, feel the smooth and sturdy structure in your hands, and play with it before you buy... :)

this little one came out like 2 weeks later..grrrrr !!! so i decided to hawk off the earlier one and bought this one on the spot...haha. Now, now...I'm still having loads of fun with this one although i do get a little bit of problem now and then with my big fingers on a cute tiny screen...so dont get me wrong....

it's just that i just saw this new one (see pic below) on the internet the other day and i'm just like totally blown away by the specs (click on view full specs...) 4G, 4.3" screen, Android 2.1, 1GHz snapdragon processor, dual cameras, mobile HDTV, HDMI output...etc..etc..hot damn..!! who wants an iPhone when you got this right?...duhhh..!!

so how?, you tell me...what's a man gotta do with all these amazing technological wizardry??

Buy it lah of course...!!

..the only sad thing is that it's not out yet but won't be long though, i believe before it hits our stores here..

so now...i am anxiously waiting for this one to show up....

i know this may sound a bit morbid but...would anyone be interested to buy a life insurance or a personal assurance policy to benefit the poor and/or needy ? i was just wondering to myself....

a lot of us lead quite comfortable lives really and some of us even lead excessively extravagant lives and would have thought nothing of splashing a couple of hundred of ringgit on things that we might not really need. i know there are a lot of people in need out there. a lot of children and poor people roaming the streets at night, foraging for food or in seek of shelter and i know there are also a lot of NGOs out there and social support organisations already taking care of these people. But even so, these organisations need all the funds they can get to keep their support activities running smoothly.

so..if some of us could just put aside a little bit of money every month towards an insurance policy, some kids or old folks out there could just benefit in the event that we pass on suddenly..

...so, for maybe a RM10K policy, might just be peanuts that you have to fork out for the monthly premiums. and RM10K may not be much, but collectively, it may create some meaning for these organisations, what do you think? and i'm sure you would have bought million dollar policies to provide for your immediate families already, so what's another 10K ya? plus, nowadays we get free PA coverage from our credit card companies and a whole lot of other institutions..so those could actually be used to benefit the poor..at no costs to us anyway, just make sure you mention who your benefactor is..

so, would you consider spending a few ringgit a month for such a policy? please check with your own insurance companies if they can do this for you, tell them you want to list out such and such an organisation as the beneficiary...i know you have a beautiful heart in there, do please share it..

..come get it, got promotional price some more ah..wah !!!..

except it dont really work. i just signed up on a Maxis 6.0GB package, with supposed capability of supporting download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps for a promotional fee of RM98 per month..the catch is, i found out that i'd have to stand under the sun, out in open air, holding my netbook for the connection to proceed, or if i want faster broadband internet speeds, i would have to do my surfing at their service centre..hah !! (the service centre is located less than 500m away from my office some more..) and i have had computer technicians (few of them actually, let's not even mention the amount i paid for their services) tested it out and none could solve the problem...

BUT..if i put my maxis 7.2 Mbps SIM card into my old USB modem that is capable of supporting speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, then it works fantastic, even inside my office building..

So..now i suspect, it's probably because the infrastructure or "hardware" for the 7.2 Mbps is not that widely available to support the new high speed modem, unless of course, i'm surfing near to or at their service centre.

Has anyone out there who has recently signed up on any network's so-called high speed 7.2 Mbps broadband service gotten the same problem? i would be very keen to find out..

p/s: i've also tried other "open" USB modems with the same quoted 7.2 Mbps capability with my Maxis bb SIM card and the same problem remained but works nicely with any type of 3.6 Mbps USB modem..!!

finally, i got confirmation from their service centre fellas that perhaps it's because their 7.2 Mbps network is not stable yet, meaning not fully established in my area, and that's why i could not connect..and they had the nerve to tell me that i could cancel my maxis broadband and use other "slower" networks if i wanted to..!! (damn..and i had gone from lousy streamyx to lousy celcom broadband to this..looks like i got 2 more options left to choose..celaka semua..)

knn..!! early2 say lah, after all the trouble i went through, now they tell me this !! basket..some more dare to put advertisement so big2 in the newspaper everyday...!!

was having dinner at my current favorite joint yesterday..Popeye's Fried Chicken outlet in TTDI. this time i refrained myself from gorging down on excess grub and just ordered a two piece set that came with the usual mash and mash (i usually trade the coleslaw for another mash) and a soft drink. this time, i chose to sit by the window over-looking the busy pasar malam stalls below and was about to swallow my first bite of their truly tasty finger licking chicken when i noticed a man or half of him from where i could see, sitting almost near the middle of the road peddling something...that piece of chicken got stuck in my throat when i squinted my eyes and realized that the man was actually only half...meaning he had no legs!! he was just sitting on his bum or whatever there is left when a person has no legs. his left arm stopped right at his elbow..only the right arm appeared normal from where i could see..

damn..i nearly choked on that piece of chicken. i decided to just eat the mash and gulped down my mirinda grape to ease the passage of that chicken down my throat. i then decided to order a take-away 2-piece set meal for the fella. good thing they made me wait as what i got was freshly fried chicken. if only the biscuit had just come out from the oven, that would have been really perfect..but anyway, i took it to him and placed it in front of him and gave him a pat on the shoulder and very quietly walked away..i watched him from behind and saw him open the plastic bag, took a good sniff of what's inside and then closed it back tightly and placed it protectively by his side...probably saving the food for later...that moment really broke my heart..

..i did not want to alarm him, so i took these pics from his back. i noted that he was probably a foreigner and he was selling something but i dont think anyone was buying but yet, he had an open plastic bag in front of him containing a few ringgit notes. i also noted as i observed from a distance that there were the occasional people who dropped some money in his bag but mostly, people would just walk past him like he was just a tree stump that sprouted from the road...the cars were zooming pass him too like on an obstacle course..

i know..i know..some of you may say that, hey, he's just being put there by some syndicate to beg for money and knowing malaysians are generally (?? really??) softies at heart, he's just a product used to make money. he could have been smuggled in from vietnam, (for a brief moment, i thought he may have been a victim of agent orange..coz i dont think anyone could have survived if he had had an accident and had his limbs torn off that way leaving what this guy had left.) by the syndicate to block the streets of KL for sympathy..BUT hey, i dont care how he got there or what his purpose is but no human being should ever be placed in that position...

i had a sleepless night. i cried in my heart for what i saw. i felt helpless..what in the world have we become..?

p/s: if any of u guys are in the ttdi pasar malam area on sundays and u are a softie like me, do buy him a nice take-away meal instead of dropping off cash..he can be seen with his back to the kfc outlet, facing pak pa nasi lemak stall...if i decide to start a mobile free kitchen, would anyone be interested?

but i'm still twenty eight..haha
went up genting to stay and gambled away three whole days. it was fun, really, so much fun to just throw away money...hahaha. i lost RM20. i'm a good gambler you see. i walk away when i win, i also walk away when i loose...

next year, i think i would just go to phuket and sun myself away for a week. eat lots of fresh seafood, and just while the time away..i miss those days when i used to travel a lot. used to travel everywhere on company expense, used to stay at the finest hotels and eat at the best restaurants for free...yeah, i miss those days. nowadays, everything comes out from my own pocket, how sad...haha but i'm still having the best days of my life..

We have been told that there is a queue of people on mechanical heart machines waiting for heart donors at IJN, and here we have the deceased family offering to donate his organs, and in the midst of their bereavement, they took the trouble to inform the IJN...but you people took more than 3 hours to go collect and then you had the nerve to tell the family that they should have called someone else instead. So it's the family's fault, is it??? or are we saying the IJN took some time before they got the information to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) ??

Hello ??!! IJN has been screaming and shouting about organ transplantation programs and has been highlighting these in the MEDIA again and again and again...of course people are gonna call the IJN mah. Now you come and say those in Johor should contact the HSA instead..wah seh..this is news to me, very likely news to all the people in the state..

but you know, that is such an idiotic statement to make (you need a good PR fella to help you make press statements)..!! or maybe you should get your officers off their high chairs and their butts on the scene immediately the next time an opportunity like this comes along...!! maybe there's a loss of communication somewhere along the way, but something like this needs fool-proof standard operating procedures..dont you agree?

..i'm still waiting ahhhhhhhh...it's tuesday already. the agent just called and said that my car needs to go for inspection since it is a CBU (completely built-up unit)..and i'm like WT* !! it's an imported car of extremely reputable quality (ok ok..i'm exaggerating a bit here but you know what i mean..but hey that's what all the reviews say so far ok?), with 5-star NCAA ratings or Euro whatever ratings some more and yet, they want to send my car to Puspakom for inspection?? eh hullo..............this car already running on the roads of America and Europe and if they feel is good enough for them, is definitely good enough for me leh !!..plus anything korean is my kimchi...comprendo?? you see Rain in Ninja Assassin, awesome right? if cicakman can impress me all the same, then i keep my mouth shut !!

plus they say since it's a CBU, they need me to personally go to JPJ to show my face because of some AP requirement or whatever..yadda, yadda, yadda..,otherwise, i need to pay an additional RM150 to the runner to do it for me..!! if i'm a potential foreign investor looking to buy a multi-million ringgit property and you create all these unnecessary bureaucratic hassles (or is it only because i need to feed some poor fella along the way kah?), you think i want to still put my money here ah??

i heard the sad news from my cousin yesterday. told me you left quietly. i said a little prayer for you as you embarked on your new journey and hoped that the angels were there to keep you safe and watch over you. i know you are now free from all the pain and discomfort. you rightly told me so, just 3 nights ago in a dream. it was so typical of you. to suddenly burst out and said.."hey..!! i'm okay already. see...no more pain" ..and you gave that signature laugh of yours, and i noticed that you "looked" so very very young..

and when i told mom about it over the phone the very next day and she relayed that dream to you..i'm sure you must have smiled a little smile in between labored breaths, coz you probably knew it already..and when mom told me that you'd been talking the past few nights about some departed relatives showing up suddenly in the middle of the night, i kinda knew it too..

and yesterday, mom told me that you went so peacefully, after all your cousins and siblings regaled and reminisced to you the old times down at the old house on Burmah Road. i'm sure it brought back a great lifetime of memories for you, beautiful and joyful memories that you softly and quietly took with you...

i'm so sorry i was not there to say goodbye to you, mostly becoz i hate goodbyes but i also know you probably didn't want me to...and i know you know that one fine day, we will all meet again and i'm sure you will have plenty of stories to tell us for eternity..

Saya merujuk kepada artikel Tun bertajuk “Kaki Dalam Kasut” yang ditulis pada 20 Julai 2009 di laman web Tun. Izinkan saya berkongsi pendapat saya berkenaan apa yang ditulis oleh Tun.

2. Saya percaya penyoal berpendapat orang bukan Melayu berasa amat tertekan dan kecewa dengan “ketidakadilan” terhadap mereka di Malaysia (oleh Kerajaan yang dikuasai oleh orang Melayu).

Orang bukan Melayu mempunyai alasan yang kukuh untuk berasa amat tertekan dan kecewa dengan ketidakadilan terhadap mereka di Malaysia. Malah bumiputera bukan Melayu khususnya orang Asli dan bumiputera Sabah dan Sarawak juga berkongsi perasaan yang sama kerana mereka turut tidak diberikan layanan yang sama seperti orang Melayu sedangkan mereka merupakan penduduk asal negara ini. Berapa banyakkah individu bumiputera bukan Melayu yang diterima masuk dalam sektor kerajaan dan syarikat-syarikat milik kerajaan seperti Petronas?

3. Saya tidak tahu samada penyoal ini pernah bertanya kepada tokoh bukan Melayu soalan yang sama iaitu perasaan orang Melayu akan keadaan di negara nenek moyang mereka yang mereka sudah jadi kaum yang secara relatif termiskin dan masih ketinggalan.

Tun, kata kunci di sini ialah ‘yang termiskin dan ketinggalan’ dan itu tidak mengira kaum Melayu atau bukan Melayu. Sekiranya bantuan diberikan kepada mereka yang berhak tanpa mengira kaum, warna kulit dan agama dan didapati majoriti yang miskin adalah orang Melayu, ianya akan diterima baik.

Tiada sesiapa akan mempersoalkan dasar sedemikian. Tetapi adalah salah untuk membuat dan memperalatkan sesuatu dasar yang memberikan keutamaan kepada sesuatu kaum tanpa mengira taraf hidup dan keperluan. Malah jika sesuatu dasar itu dilaksanakan dengan mengambil kira keperluan dan merit, majoriti orang Melayu secara automatis yang akan mendapat manfaatnya.

Sudah lebih 30 tahun DEB dilaksanakan dan masih yang banyak orang Melayu yang miskin dan ketinggalan. Bukankah ini memberi petunjuk bahawa DEB telah gagal dalam perlaksanaannya dan sesuatu yang drastik perlu dilakukan? Jurang antara yang miskin dan kaya semakin bertambah, di mana kekayaan hanya tertumpu kepada sekumpulan individu Cina, India dan Melayu?

Dan dengan menggunakan hujah individu-individu paling kaya di Malaysia adalah terdiri daripada mereka yang bukan Melayu, Tun beranggapan adalah patut untuk meneruskan DEB dengan memberikan keutamaan kepada orang Melayu dan menghukum orang bukan Melayu yang miskin dan ketinggalan? Bukankan intipati asal DEB adalah untuk membantu semua yang miskin dan memerlukan pertolongan ekonomi tanpa mengira kaum? Sejak bila DEB itu khusus untuk orang Melayu sahaja?

Oh ya, bukankah mengikut kajian antropologi dan sejarah, kebanyakan orang Melayu di Malaysia dan nenek moyang mereka sebenarnya berasal dari dari Indonesia, Thailand dan India? Malah China? Jadi negara nenek moyang mereka sepatutnya bukan Malaysia, sama seperti saya? Contohnya, Tun sendiri, Khir Toyo dan Syed Hamid Albar?

4. Jika beliau bertanya dan tokoh tersebut menjawab secara ikhlas, beliau akan dapati bahawa orang Melayu amat kecewa dengan kemiskinan relatif mereka sehingga terpaksa meminta-minta sepanjang masa dan juga ketinggalan dalam pelbagai bidang.

Apakah dengan adanya DEB sepanjang 3o lebih tahun ini, orang Melayu sudah maju dalam erti kata sebenarnya dan tidak ketinggalan dalam pelbagai bidang? Pernahkan direnungkan bahawa bilangan orang Melayu yang maju dan tidak ketinggalan sudah bertambah adalah disebabkan pengurangan aras pengukur atau ’standard’ serta pemberian kuota oleh kerajaan bagi membolehkan mereka diterima masuk menyertai bidang-bidang tertentu? Apakah ini boleh dianggap sesuatu pencapaian yang membanggakan? Bukankah ini menipu diri sendiri?

5. Mereka cuba yakin mereka adalah tuan di negara mereka tetapi mereka tahu sebenarnya mereka bukan tuan. Orang bukan Melayu yang menjadi tuan yang sebenar.

Apakah amat penting untuk orang Melayu dan bukan Melayu yang semuanya rakyat Malaysia berebut-rebut menjadi tuan yang sebenar? Mengapa PEMIMPIN-PEMMPIN POLITIK Melayu seperti Tun begitu taksub dengan misi untuk menjadi ‘tuan’? Tun hampir betul dengan mengatakan (SEGELINTIR) orang bukan Melayu yang menjadi tuan yang sebenar walaupun sudah 30 tahun DEB diperalatkan untuk memberi keutamaan kepada orang Melayu. Persoalannya, mengapa ini boleh berlaku?

Orang Melayu memegang tampuk pemerintahan melalui Umno. Keutamaan diberikan kepada orang Melayu dalam perniagaan, ekonomi, pendidikan, peluang pekerjaan dsb. melalu DEB, tetapi yang masih menjadi tuan adalah segelintir orang bukan Melayu? Mengapa ini boleh berlaku? Bukankah itu sesuatu yang pelik dan aneh? Sedangkan yang berkuasa adalah orang Melayu dan dasar-dasar melibatkan sektor-sektor penting memberikan keutamaan kepada orang Melayu?

Dan Tun, sila perbetulkan kenyataan ‘orang bukan Melayu yang menjadi tuan yang sebenar’ dengan menambah ’segelintir’. Saya orang bukan Melayu dan saya langsung tidak merasakan diri saya adalah tuan.

to say that i am very impressed would be an understatement. i only wish that more of us could put in writing frequently what we have always felt very deeply about, as clearly and succinctly as he had done, so that no assumptions are continuously being made to justify for all the excesses that we have witnessed for a such a long time...excesses to benefit those of the elite, at the expense of the rakyat..
