i remember...

when i was really poor..

when i used to stand by the side of an KFC restaurant to breathe in their finger licking goodness cause i did not have enough to buy me a piece of chicken..and nobody else would.

when i used to work in a dinghy chinese take-away peeling away bags and bags of huge onions and cried my eyes out in the process, just to earn enough money for my winter clothing, ..cause i had no hand me downs.

i remember having to walk miles to that place just to save on the bus fare..and also because i could not afford a 2nd-hand bicycle.

i remember too, lugging my worldly possessions of one suitcase and two big paper bags on the streets, as i moved in search of cheaper lodgings again and again..like some crazy vagabond..cause i simply could not afford to pay..

and enduring the frosty cold of winter nights covered under a worn, tattered comforter and wearing layers of jumpers because i could only afford enough coins to keep the heater running for 2 hours a night.

and then i remember when times were a little bit better, i could enjoy the occasional supper and the pint of lager..but because i really remembered, i still worked hard taking in two jobs and doing 16-hour shifts..i still worked throughout all the weekends and the summer holidays, just to build up on contingencies, because i remembered..

and when times were really good enough, i would reward myself the occasional short holiday trip somewhere..but because i remembered, i had to make sure it was only occasional..

and then when i finally came home and eventually became kinda successful, i still remembered those old times, and i knew that if someone had extended a helping hand to me then, life might not have been so difficult, and that perhaps i need not have had to suffer so much. if someone had even thought of me in my darkest hours, i might have bruised a little less in the process..

and so because i remember those times, i will always extend my hand to those who need it, i will give every opportunity available to those who have the potential for it, and i will try my best to give a little bit of assistance whenever requested..because some times despite all our best efforts, a soothing hand may still calm the nerves, a caring word may make anxieties disappear and a simple act of kindness may just go a long long way...

i sure hope i won't ever forget..
and if you have a story like mine, i hope you will never forget too..

true..true...so true..

..came across YB hannah's explanation on the recent "drama" in perak and i have to say i truly, fully agree with her...it's strange that some people can use the "same" justification to achieve their own ends...and really believe that the people would just accept their explanations just like that...hmm, luckily hor, i never ponteng school...

i quote a paragraph from her blog..

" a mockery of our democratic institution

Hannah Yeoh

To those who argue that the political crisis in Perak now is a taste of Pakatan's own medicine (referring to the Sept 16 takeover plan), they have failed to see the key differences between the two. If you remember what happened when Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed to have the numbers to form the new federal government, he wrote to PM Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi requesting him to convene an emergency sitting of Parliament. This was rejected by the PM. The next constitutional option is to press for the dissolution of Parliament to make way for fresh new elections. That was also not entertained. Anwar Ibrahim exhausted the constitutional means that were available to him. If Pakatan were to act unconstitutionally and lure defections, then we will be having a new government today. But we didn't and we will not act unconstitutionally. So you can't say that Najib's coup and Pakatan's plan were one and the same."

could i be as excited..

as these people are about their president, as proud and as inspired as these people are about their chief executive, and as hopeful and as unified in purpose with their leader? one day, i hope, i too will live long enough to see that dream...

in the meantime, i am particularly drawn to these lines in his inaugural speech, "To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history"...."but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents"..."bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction"..."What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them — that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply"..oh hell, i am just overwhelmed with the whole speech..

on the other side of the world, a new chapter in history is definitely being written..For the world has changed, but are we, on our side of the world, ready to write our own history?..

jai ho...aiyoh..

never thought i would be moving my head to this beat but it is so infectious...and i hear the movie is really good too...good enough to have swept away the Golden Globes..maybe even good enough for an Oscar..(they won 8 oscars actually !!! wah liao..)

just have a look at the dance number at the end of this movie and tell me you dont feel like you are also part of that ensemble, swinging your hips away..

here's another of that annoyingly infectious number that keeps playing in my head...

if you have to get up and do a dance number to it, here's one with lyrics to get u going..hehe

i guess hollywood will never be the same again after being hit by this song and dance number..

is this a sign of the times...?

after a brief spurt of furious activities, business seems to have suddenly quieten down. and it's not just my own but the surrounding commercial entities here appear to have lost their usual zing..the kopi-tiams are not so crowded, the char koay teow lady has decided to take an early CNY break, the indian newspaper vendor has shifted some where else and i now find easy parking suddenly when previously i have had to play hide and seek (as in quickly step on the accelerator to stake my claim) to get a parking lot...

i see more people going to the pharmacies as compared to clinics, even the road-side medicine man appears to be doing brisk business, i see longer queues at the hypermarket with people pilling up on essential foodies only. strange but despite the cheaper petrol prices, i dont see the usual heavy traffic at the stations and i dont know if i am just imagining it but long hair seems to have come back in fashion this week. and chinese new year is but a couple of weeks away and still the mood is not quite like in previous years...

oh dear...time i stock up on instant noodles...
